There are several ways to celebrate this year's Valentine's Day. Some people celebrate it with a candlelit dinner, some see a romantic movie and other plans an out of town trip. But, this year we decided to spend it at the world's biggest book sale! Which happens only once a year. We went to The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in Manila 2020!

What is Big Bad Wolf?
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale started howling that they offer books with amazing discounts in Malaysia. Then, expanded to places like Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar, South Korea, United Arab Emirates and here in the Philippines. It is their third year here in the country and for this year, they are better than their other visits because they have 2 million new books to offer, and they're still generous in giving discounts. Most of their books can be bought with 50%-90% discount. The world's biggest book sale is happening from Feb. 14 to 24 at the World Trade Center, Pasay. You can visit anytime you want because they are open 24 hours. Plus, there is no entrance fee!

They have a lot of contests for you to win great surprises like vouchers or VIP passes where you can get first dibs to all your favorite titles, a day before they open their doors to the public. I entered their "Share the Love (for books)" contest which happened on Facebook, where you need to ask someone to be your date this Valentine's, and if the person agrees, your entry will be counted. Obviously, I asked my husband to be my date and he said, yes! Luckily, we were one of the winners to get a VIP pass for two.
The 13th of February arrived, and of course I was too excited. We left home at 7 in the morning to give us enough time since they will be opening their doors at 9 in the morning. But, because of traffic we arrived there past 9 o'clock. We went to the parking and paid Php 45 and then, claimed our passes by submitting a valid ID for verification. They were taking precautionary health measures because of the global spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19 formerly known as 2019-nCoV). All the staff were wearing protective masks and they have thermal scanners and hand sanitizer at the entrance. They advise their customers to wear masks as well. In case you want to grab a quick bite, there are food stalls available inside and even a souvenir shop. If you also want to take part and contribute to encourage Filipinos to read, you can find the Red ReaderHood and Gawad Kalinga for book donations.

Books from this year and last year's haul!
My happiness is my daughter's happiness. I went hunting for books that she will enjoy reading with me and most of the books I found ranges from Php 100 to Php 160. The cheapest one I scored is worth Php 40. Here are some of Andie's handpicks and favorites:

1. The Three Little Pigs - Php 290
Reading can be so much fun because this book brings your favorite characters to life. You can interact with the characters while reading it. All you have to do is download the Hippo Magic App, which is free. Then, point your phone or device at the pages with the Hippo Magic symbol.

2. The Wheels on the Bus - Php 290
This is part of the magical book series collection of Hippo Magic. We picked this because The Wheels on the Bus is one of Andie's favorite nursery rhymes. They also have a special promo that if you buy 5 books you'll get 1 free!

3. Finding Dory: Swim Along with Me - Php 120
This soundbook includes different melodies like "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and "Buffalo Gals" where you can sing along about Dory and her new ocean pals.

4. My Bedtime Bear - Php 390
The Bedtime Bear makes bedtime fun and easier for your little ones. This is the perfect book to put your kids to bed.

5. Kittens Board Book - Php 160
This book was selected because we came from a family of cat lovers. It reminds us of our pets: Puti, Brown, Ampy, Kendra and Scarlet. Also, the illustrations are so cute and it captured my attention right away. Meow!
We had so much fun! We stayed there for an hour or so because we went through each books carefully. Surprisingly, we spent only around Php 2,000 for 14 titles! They have several payment options. Aside from cash, they also accept debit and credit cards and they also have PayMaya. Also, you are encouraged to bring your own bag because plastic bags are not allowed. You can bring a backpack or even a luggage depending on how much you want to purchase! Plus, it is one way to help mother nature.
